about Samui
Located in the Eastern part of the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui is a stunningly beautiful tropical island and the third largest of Thailand's islands after Koh Phuket and Koh Chang. It is the largest in an Archipelago of 48 islands, which includes the fabulous Angthong National Marine Park, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao; Koh Phangan being home to the world famous'Full Moon Party'. Samui is at its longest and widest points, a 25 kilometres long and 21 wide.
Surrounded by an aquamarine and cobalt blue sea the white sandy beaches with many secluded coves offer peace and tranquility, while the interior has rolling hillsides with coconut groves, picturesque waterfalls, magnificent ocean views and fruit orchards covered with dense tropical vegetation.
Samui has as abundance of world class beaches to simply lie back and soak up the sunshine. The most noted one for tourists is Chaweng beach, where you can expect fine white sand, water sports, shopping and the largest crowds. For quieter times go to some of the other beaches such as Lamai, Maenam or Ban Rak, also known as Big Buddha Beach.
Thailand's climate is tropical with high temperatures as well as humidity. During the high season in December the weather is best for European people, because the temperatures are comparatively cooler than the rest of the year. Tropical rain showers can occur throughout this season. From March to June it becomes very hot with little or no rain at all. The months July to September are hot as well, but with occasional rain. This months are also popular months for visitors. October and November see more rain than other months, though it generally doesn't rain every day. In contrast to other regions of Thailand, Samui does not really have a well-defined rainy season but sometimes there are sunless periods for two or three days, especially during the monsoon month of November. The weather is quite difficult to predict during this time, but being Samui, you're virtually assured of getting some great sunshine!
